If the slip road is relatively straight and has two lanes I always go in to the right hand lane as it runs parallel to the motorway for longest and gives a better view of the traffic.
Dec 08, 2006 · If anyone ever read the highway code on motorway rules, they would know that the slip road is there for them to adjust their speed to join the flow of traffic on the motorway. As an HGV driver I drive down to Dublin every day from Belfast and if you think that motorway drivers are bad in England try driving down south (Eire).

Aug 21, 2009 · Green are on the slip loads. Red are on hard shoulder. white between lanes and Amber at central reservation. White are easy to remember as they are like on normal roads. Red is an emergency colour. the hard shoulder is only used in an emergency. green is go. so to go somewhere off the motorway you would use the slip road. Try something similar
Motorway slip road markings come in the form of white lines with separation gaps dividing the slip road from the main carriageway. There are also green reflective studs, otherwise known as cats eyes on the right-hand edge. These reflective studs are there to inform drivers what road position they are in when driving in the dark.

Road studs, or cat's eyes, are retroreflective markers on the road surface to supplement longitudinal road markings, aiding visibility at night. Road studs have a retroreflective surface which reflects the light from vehicle headlights making them visible to drivers in darkness. The colour reflected gives the meaning of the marker (see below).
There is also some interesting ongoing work on alternatives like solar powered ‘cat’s eye’ studs. The studs can also be installed on approaches to roundabouts, road side barriers, traffic cones, signs, and anywhere where advance warning is necessary, e.g. on the approach to traffic islands, road works etc.

At a roundabout where the motorway starts, when a main road becomes a motorway or by joining from a slip road. When joining from a slip road remember you MUST give way to traffic already on the motorway. It does not matter which lane you use when joining on a slip road. Using the right hand lane of a slip road can be especially dangerous
