Reflective studs on motorway are safety devices used on roads. These devices are usually made of plastics, ceramics, thermoplastic coatings or occasionally metal, and come in a variety of shapes and colors. Reflective studs on motorway include lenses or reflective sheets, which enhance visibility by reflecting automobile headlights. Some other names for specific types of reflective studs include convex vibration lines, Botts' dots, contour lines, cat's eyes, road studs or road turtles. There are 5 colours of ‘reflective road stud’ (often known as ‘catseyes’) listed in rule 132: White studs mark the lanes or the middle of the road. Red studs mark the left edge of the road. Amber studs mark the central reservation of a dual carriageway or motorway. Green studs mark the edge of the main carriageway at lay-bys and slip roads.
On motorways, reflective studs of various colours are fixed in the road between the lanes. These help you to identify which lane you’re in when it’s dark or in poor visibility. Amber-coloured studs are found on the right-hand edge of the main carriageway, next to the central reservation.

Couldn’t remember the colour of the damn motorway lights (hardly travel on them, ever) and got all the dual carriage way and heavy vehicles ones wrong (10 under) or what it was when I passed my test. I got all the really important ones right though – and I’ve learned I don’t go on motorways enough and err on the side of caution.:)
