Retro-reflective raised pavement markers (sometimes called cat’s eyes or road studs) These RRPMs reflect light back at you as you drive down the road. They can be reflective on one or both sides (i.e. on a motorway it’s pointless to have it reflective both sides, but for a centre line marker it’s important to have them reflective both sides.

The 290 Road Stud or Cats Eye as it is commonly known is available with a white body or yellow body, which you can choose from above. The stud is attached to the surface of the road using either HotMelt or Coldfix. A third option is available, this uses a metal shoe to hold the stud, making it suitable for use on extra high volume applications.

When joining a motorway, give way to traffic already on the motorway. Vehicles towing trailers cannot travel in the right-hand lane of a motorway (unless all other lanes are closed). The maximum speed limit for them is 60 mph. The left-hand lane can be used by any vehicle. The left-hand lane should be used for normal driving.

The self illuminating road marking lights (cats' eye replacements) trialled on some UK roads were invented by an ex-fireman from the Newark (UK) area. A certain police ASU was given a set to trial as markers for their helipad, which at that time was an unlit field. Unfortunately, they were far from powerful enough to be of any use.
