Motorway reflective stud placement Motorway or dual carriageway reflective studs (or cat’s eyes as they are also referred to) are designed to be most effective in poor light conditions by reflecting light back to the driver to signify which part of the motorway they are driving on, or where they might need to exit.

NOKIN™ Marker Series 290 road studs have been used on a 24km stretch of brand new motorway in Ireland, which opened in March 2010. The construction of a major inter-urban route connecting Dublin and Waterford is a key part of the Irish government’s strategy for economic growth and road safety improvements.
Highly reflective: With a reflection of 360°, our road markers are fully retroreflective. We made sure that our glass road studs don’t have any blind spots in any curves. If you prefer a temporary solution to increase safety and visibility, you should have a look at our collapsible cones .
Green studs indicate a point at which a vehicle can exit the main carriageway. This includes slip roads (where a junction joins or leaves the motorway) as well as bus stops and lay-bys.
Reflective road studs installed on the motorways can not only be applied on motorway, and it can also be applied in other road conditions to mark the center lines, lane lines and edge lines; it can also be used to mark the curve, ramp entrance, guide line, narrow roads, and road obstructions in dangerous sections with quite strong traffic
Each colour has a different purpose and conveys a specific message as laid out by Rule 132 of the Highway Code. The colour of reflective studs between a motorway and its slip road will be green. When you see green reflective studs you should take note that there is a slip road joining the main carriageway of the motorway.
While reflective road studs remain the most popular form of road studs, there are other options depending on your circumstances. These include non-reflective studs and markers such as those marking pedestrian crossings, as well as solar-powered road studs, which can provide a similar level of light at a greater distance than cat’s eyes.
Sep 03, 2015 · The new reflective road studs should also help to improve visibility. “All of the work is taking place overnight, when the motorway is at its quietest, so we can keep disruption to a minimum.
The white lines on the road will also be repainted and new reflective studs will be installed as part of the work. The slip road will be closed from Saturday October 24 from 8pm until 6am on

These LED road studs are powered by solar energy captured from natural sunlight by the in-built solar panel and stored in the stud's internal battery. As a result of this active light output, they deliver 10 x greater visibility of the road layout ahead than the traditional retro-reflective road markings, giving drivers up to 900m visibility.
